Q. What type of school is Japhet?
A. Japhet School is an independent, coeducational day school for preschool through eighth grade. It is not a charter or parochial school.

Q. Can a student join a class in the middle of the year?
A. Yes, students have enrolled in Japhet School during the year.

Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Financial aid is available. Eligibility is determined through statistical data submitted to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid in Princeton, NJ, along with supplementary information submitted to Japhet School. Financial assistance is available to students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.

Q. What type of scholarships are available?
A. Merit scholarships are available to new and to current students. The requirements for eligibility include demonstration of grade level achievement, letters of recommendation, and academic assessment by Japhet School.

Q. What is the student-to-teacher ratio?
A. We meet or exceed accreditation standards in our teacher-to-student ratios.
8 - 1 for Preschool (age 3 and 4)
15 - 1 for Kindergarten
18 - 1 for first through eighth grades

Q. Does Japhet teach religion?
A. Religion is not taught at Japhet School. Our monthly character qualities provide a common language within the school community. They also serve as a focus for discussions during our weekly community assembly based on character. We teach our students how qualities such as gratitude, reliability, and humility ---— and 15 others that have universal value — can be put into action at home and at school.

Q. Where do your alumni attend high school?
A. Japhet School alumni attend a variety of high schools: independent, parochial, and public.

Q. How do your alumni adjust to high school?
A. Our alumni adjust very well, often becoming leaders in their academic and social settings. They are well prepared to lead confidently due, in part, to their strong oral communication skills, their character education foundation, and the relationships they form with their teachers.

Q. When does the school day start and end?
A. Classes begin at 8:30 AM, and students are welcomed into the classroom by teachers between 8:20 and 8:30 AM. Students who arrive earlier than 8:20 go to before-school care.
A. Dismissal is at 3:30 PM. Half-day dismissal is at noon. Students are dismissed directly to parents or designated caregivers. Students not picked up at 3:40 go to after-school care.

Q. Is before-school and after-school care available?
A. Yes, before-school care is available starting at 7:30 AM, and after-school care ends at 6:00 PM.

Japhet has a low teacher-to-student ratio.
